Are you ready for Christmas?
This year we are closing for Christmas deliveries earlier than ever before. If it is not obvious, the reason in three words is Royal Mail Strikes. Top marks to the union person who formulated their schedule of strike days. They could not have done better if their aim was to create maximum disruption.
Here are the December strike dates:
Thursday December 1
Royal Mail is deploying management to deliver Special Delivery, but you can't expect to receive the item on the next working day, even though you've paid for it. We had an inbound Special Delivery this week, which took four days to reach us and spent most of its time in various Royal Mail depots.
Since the severity of the impact on normal shipping became apparent, we have been using the courier Evri (part of Hermes) and used by Marks & Spenser, to name one big retailer. We thought if Evri was good enough for M&S, they would be good enough for us. And so far, they appear to be working quite well but we have no long-term experience with them and don't know how they will cope as the Christmas parcel volume increases.
So for all the reasons shown above, we will be closing for pre-Christmas deliveries on Friday, 9th December.
If you want to take a chance after that date, you can. We'll still be accepting orders.
Choose Special Delivery when it is available in the cart, but remember it will not be guaranteed next working day delivery. If you choose First Class post, we will send it with Evri, which is approximately 3 to 4 days delivery which is not far off Royal Mail's timescales on a normal Christmas but with the added peace of mind provided by a real tracking system.
We will be closing (officially running for the hills) on Monday, 19th December. But again, you can still place orders over the Christmas break. The first shipping day in 2023 will be January 3rd
As in previous years, we will continue to answer emails with the help of our hard-working skeleton staff during the holiday period.
Wishing you a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year.
The Essili Team xxxx
